Ask a question:

Switching to SQL Local Server

Solution

This procedure is for installations that:

  • have the latest version of HORTICOPIA Professional V or the Version V refresh
  • you are running a standalone installation
  • the software is currently using the SQL Server Express

First, check the version of the software.

If the software opens OK, just select System Parameters from the Help menu. The third line in the resulting display is the version and build.

If you can't open the software, open the HORTICOPIA Control Panel. From the Start menu, locate the Horticopia Pro V folder, and then Horticopia Control Panel. Click on the Show System Parameters button. The third line in the resulting display is the version.

You should have version 5.2.45 (5.2, build 45) or later.

Next, determine whether the system is running the SQL Local version.

  • Open the Horticopia Control Panel -- either from the Tools menu in the program or from the Start menu, locate the Horticopia Pro V folder, and then Horticopia Control Panel
  • Click on the Setup tab and then on Open the Horticopia Data folder in Windows Explorer
  • Open (double0click) on the Horticopia.ini file (the ".ini" extension may not display)
  • There should be a line that starts with SQLConnect=
  • If it shows SQLConnect=LOCALDB then you already have the SQL LocalDB

To transition to the LOCAL database version:

  • Just in case things go astray, you should be sure you have a backup of your system. Also, rebooting your system first can prevent certain problems
  • Open the Horticopia Control Panel as described above
  • On the Setup tab, click on Copy (backup) HORTICOPIA Data folder. Choose a convenient location such as the Desktop
  • After successfully backing up the HORTICOPIA Data folder, click on Delete HORTICOPIA Data folder
  • Start HORTICOPIA Professional. It should now be running with the Local database version and a fresh copy of the database itself.

If you had authored plants or have notes in the My Information areas of any plants that you wish to keep, then:

  • Open the Horticopia Control Panel as described above
  • On the Setup tab, click on Import HORTICOPIA Data from a different location
