Ethel
Dutky is the Director of the University of Maryland Plant Diagnostic Laboratory.
She has a BS in Entomology and an MS in Botany/Plant Pathology. She
diagnoses diseases on all crops, providing plant diseases support
for the Maryland Cooperative Extension field faculty. Ms.
Dutky's contributions to plant diagnostics have been recognized by awards
from her colleagues in Extension, by grower groups and nationally by the
American Phytopathological Society Diagnostics Committee lifetime achievement
award.
She is the co-author (with Stanton Gill and David Clement) of the
book "Diseases and Pests of Herbaceous Perennials - the Biological
Approach" published in 1999 by Ball Publishing. She helps train Maryland
and Virginia Master Gardener volunteers to become better diagnosticians
and to appreciate the beauty and complexity of plant pathology. Ms. Dutky has worked on USAID programs in west Africa, assisting
in the development of diagnostic services to support the Ministry of Agriculture
Integrated Pest Management programs for crops and vegetables is Senegal
and Guinea-Bissau. Ms. Dutky has also visited Peru and Bolivia on international
development projects. |
